Signing of the contract on october 28

Excellent news: during the last meeting of our board, we have agreed that there is a sufficient basis and enough confidence to enter into a contract with organbuilder Edskes. The contract signing will take place on october 28 during a fundraiser concert by Sietze de Vries on the Schnitger-organ in Uithuizen. During the negotations around our decision, Bernhardt Edskes showed a very constructive and generous attitude by donating us part of the organ. This means that the total amount we have to raise can be lowered to EUR 565,000. We have already secured a sizeable portion of this sum, but still a long way from home. Your help therefore is still very much appreciated and needed by us.

On may 13 two putti from the former Schnitger-organ, carved by famous woodcarver Jan de Rijk, were picked up in Appelscha and taken back to Groningen. They became available because the local congregation has decommisioned the van-Oeckelen organ on which they resided since around 1900. The intention is for the putti to be returned in 2017 to the positions they helt for almost twohundred years until 1896.

Jaap Smit passed away

We were shocked to learn that on july 20 our esteemed fellow board member Jaap Smit suddenly passed away. Although he was a member of our board for only a few months a warm and friendly relationship has quickly developed out of our shared interests. Through his know-how and passion for our project he has made a valuable contribution. We strive to continue the project in his spirit but we will sorely miss his amiable personality and expertise. We hope that his wife and children will find the strength to come to terms with this severe loss. Members of the board of the Foundation
